A download tool that does not get in your way
Boo Downloader saves video and audio from 1300+ sites to your own computer. That is the whole product. Everything below is about how we build it.
Why it exists
Downloading a video should be boring. In practice it usually is not: the free web tools are wrapped in ad traffic and fake download buttons, the good command-line tools ask you to install a runtime and learn some flags first, and the desktop apps in between tend to arrive with a bundled “offer” you did not want.
Boo is the version we wanted to exist. A proper Windows application with a real queue, a real library and a real progress bar, built on the same battle-tested engine the command-line crowd already trusts — but shipped so that installing it is the only setup step.
How it is built
It is a native Windows application, not a website in a wrapper. The interface is small and fast, the downloads run in a background process that does not freeze the window, and up to five can run at once without the UI stuttering.
Underneath, it uses well-established open-source components for extraction and media conversion, bundled and kept current. We did not reinvent that part, and we would not do it better — what we built is everything around it: the queue, the playlist picker, the library, the progress reporting, and the bit where it updates itself when a site changes.
We do not watch what you download
The app talks straight to the source site from your machine. Links, files and your library never reach us, and there is no record of them to hand over to anyone. That is a design decision, not a policy we could quietly reverse.
Everything is in the box
The download engine, the media converter and the JavaScript runtime ship inside the installer. No Python, no PATH surgery, no codec pack, no "first run downloads 200MB".
No ads, no bundleware, no watermark
The whole business model is that some people pay for Pro. That means we never have to make money by putting a toolbar on your machine or a logo on your files.
Broken sites get fixed without a reinstall
Sites change and extractors break — that is normal in this category. The engine updates on its own from Settings, so a fix does not have to wait for us to ship a new installer.
Refunds without a fight
Fourteen days, no interrogation, no retention script. If it did not do what you needed, you should not be paying for it.
It is a desktop app, and it stays one
Buy a lifetime licence and it keeps working on your PC. There is no server that can be switched off and take your copy with it.
On what people download
We are not going to pretend a download tool has no misuse. Boo is general-purpose: it does not decide what you point it at, and we cannot see what you do point it at.
What we can do is be straight about it. Saving your own uploads, content you have a licence for, public-domain material, or anything a rights holder has offered for download is exactly what this is for. Re-publishing someone else's work as your own is not, and we would rather you did not use Boo for it. The terms spell out the specifics.
Getting hold of us
There is no ticket maze. The contact page reaches a person who can actually fix things — licence problems, refunds, or a site that has stopped working. If a site has broken, try Settings → Download engine → Check for updates first; it resolves most of them on the spot.
